what we do

We believe community service efforts can be accomplished in the limited time our busy schedules allow—and can make a big impact when accomplished in the spirit of fun!

We often work on service projects and fundraising efforts at our monthly general meetings.

Our Projects

The Orinda Junior Women’s Club supports a variety of projects that benefit the community, the arts, the environment, and children and families in Orinda and throughout the East Bay Area.

Youth Ink Writing Contest

The Orinda Juniors are proud sponsors of the annual Youth Ink Writing Contest. The contest is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who attend an Orinda school or live in Orinda. It is a great way to support the literary arts among young people in the community. We garner support from local merchants and have also received a grant from the Orinda Association for the program.

Other wonderful programs that the Orinda Juniors support include the following:

Orinda Senior Village

Each Halloween, we host a lively party and parade for residents of the Orinda Convalescent Home. We decorate pumpkins and bring our children dressed in their Halloween costumes for a parade and party with the residents.

STAND! for Families Free of Violence

The Orinda Juniors support STAND! by hosting a party for the children who live at the transitional housing facility while the mothers receive counseling. We provide entertainment (a magic show, puppet show, or visit from the Lawrence Hall of Science) along with backpacks filled with school/art supplies for each child.

Bruns Hospice House

The Orinda Juniors plan and organize a special dinner for the residents and families staying at the Bruns Hospice House, an in-patient adult hospice facility for acutely ill patients that is run by Hospice of the East Bay.

Children’s Hospital Family House

Each spring, we assemble and deliver Easter baskets to children staying at the Children’s Hospital Family House. The children, siblings of long-term patients at the Children’s Hospital, are always thrilled to have a special treat just for them.

Holiday Family Adoption

The holidays are a difficult time for many Bay Area families. Each year the Orinda Juniors supports an organization (such as Brighter Beginnings) by adopting a family in need or by organizing a clothing or gift drive.

Other local community organizations We provide volunteer hours and resources to local community events: Orinda 4th of July activities, Haley’s Run for a Cause, EFO, Orinda in Action, Shelter, Inc. and others. Orinda
